SOD BLASTER 2021
Sod Blaster 3 Launch Report
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better. We had 146 flights on Friday, 229 flights on Saturday, 169 flights on Sunday, and 66 flights on Monday. A record shattering 610 flights for the weekend! Compare that to 562 flights for Sod Blaster 2 and 381 flights at our inaugural Sod Blaster 2018. The launch had everything: NAR and TRA certifications, a raffle, silent auction, buy-it – take it table, altitude contests, TRA research motors, night flights, a complex N flight, and an incredibly spectacular N sparky motor flight by Scott Binder. Everything went very smoothly despite the high number of flights, thanks to the tireless help of our club members who stepped up to do range setup, LCO duty, RSO duty, and teardown.
Altitude contest winners:
LPR (840’) – Bernard Cawley, 847’, $25 gift certificate from Sun River Nature Center
MPR (1593’) – Bernard Cawley, 1592’, $25 gift certificate from Sun River Nature Center
HPR (3527’) – Larry Kennedy, 3563’, $50 gift certificate from Scott Binder Rocketry
We had very generous sponsors again this year with hundreds of dollars of really great raffle prizes – many thanks to ASP Rocketry, Eggtimer, Lab Rat Rocketry, Loc Precision, Mad Cow Rocketry, OneBadHawk, Qualman Rocketry, SBR Rocketry, SMT Designs, Stickershock 23, Sun River Nature Center, Top Flight Recovery; and to all who bought raffle tickets to help fund our club. Stickershock 23 also made and donated our sponsor banner for us.
Thanks to the very generous donations from the SPARC and WAC clubs and to those who donated to our parking lot upgrade project, I’m happy to say we have enough funds now to pay off what we owe for the gravel. Those of you who have seen the upgrade know how nice the parking areas are – we cannot thank the land owner Brent Heinen enough for stepping up and making it happen. And again many thanks to all of you who helped make this our biggest and best Sod Blaster ever!
